BioImagine getting up everyday and being able to do what you always dreamed of doing. THAT IS ME! Since I was in 2nd grade, I never wavered from this hope and dream. I know how fortunate I am and that is why it shows in my work each and every day. In June of 2013 I finished my 15th year of teaching 1st and 2nd grade. I started my teaching career teaching on the island of Saipan in the Northern Marianas Islands. I taught 1st grade in the public school system there. When my wife and I decided to start a family, we moved back to Vermont. Upon my return, I took a classroom reduction position at the Thatcher Brook Primary School in Waterbury. After being back for a year, I was offered a permanent position at the Waitsfield Elementary School where I have been teaching ever since. Last year I was awarded the VT-NEA Angelo J. Dorta Teacher Excellence Award. Along with this honor, I was recognized at the NEA-Foundation's Excellence in Teaching Gala. This recognition was accompanied by the opportunity of becoming a Pearson Global Learning Fellow. I spent 2013 learning about the importance of Global Education and in June I spent a week and a half, with the other Fellows, in Brazil. Here we were able to see new education initiatives, and speak to students and teachers alike. This was a wonderful opportunity and an experience that will surely impact my teaching.
