Wows and Wonders Feedback

Gina prepares students for peer review by modeling what useful feedback looks like. She also gives her students a "Wows and Wonders" worksheet to complete before their peer reviewer looks at their essay. This worksheet affords students the opportunity to ask their peer reviewers for specific feedback on what they would most like support and assistance.

Strategy Implementation Questions
Questions to think about when implementing the strategy
  • Do you feel it is important that peer feedback come after the final draft is complete?
  • This strategy involves multiple elements -- teacher modeling, students writing to peer reviewers, and students engaging in the peer review. How would you rearrange this strategy or modify it to fit the needs of your students?
Lesson Notes

I will say: We are going to practice the skill of goal setting for my presentation and the strategy of thinking through my final draft to set goals for my presentation. The process I will use is as follows:

1) Read over my final draft

2) Write a note to my reviews as to what I will include in my presentation

3) Write a note to my reviews as to what I would still liked suggestions about for my presentation

4) Review useless or useful feedback.

I will model for students how I read through my final draft and think about what I would like helpful suggestions about and what I did really well.
