Sentence Fluency Assessment

Objective: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing by using coordinating and subordinating conjunctions and a variety of sentence structures.
Students were instructed to write a friendly letter to the teacher candidate who had been with our class for the quarter. I had conducted lessons on complex and compound sentences, so students knew how to construct different types of sentences. I gave them a rubric to help them focus on sentence fluency. The letter provided students a relevant application of writing and a means of assessment for me.
