Addition Algorithm Rote or Understanding

Unit 17: Getting Better at Addition and Subtraction
Lesson 9 of 12

Objective: SWBAT relate the addition algorithm to rounded estimates and understand that they are adding tens and ones, which are different units.

Big Idea: In part 1, students all were able to add two numbers presented vertically and relate each 2-digit number to the nearest 10. Today I need to check for understanding verses the rote application of the process.
