I include Warm ups with a Rubric as part of my daily routine. My goal is to allow students to work on **Math Practice 3** each day. Grouping students into homogeneous pairs provides an opportunity for appropriately differentiated math conversations. This lesson’s Warm Up- Systems of Equations Day 1 model a linear situation which is the introductory example in today's lesson.

I also use this time to correct and record the previous day's Homework.

#### Introduction to Systems

As I got into this unit, I realized that my students were not prepared for systems of equations. I needed an additional day of practice before they were even ready for my original modeling systems lesson. With that in mind, this lesson should only be taught when a large portion of students show little to no memory of the algebraic forms of solving systems.

This lesson consists of an initial demonstration of the different methods of solving a system using the warm up problem, a short discussion on the strength and weaknesses of these methods (**Math Practice 5**), and some guided practice. Detailed presentation notes can be found in the PowerPoint. In the next lesson, some of these topics will be visited again but students will be more confident in their discussions and we can focus on the whys over the hows to each method.
