Smart Phone Literature Project Day Three
Lesson 3 of 4
Objective: SWBAT articulate connections among literary works and modern culture through writing, imagemaking, and discussion.
My classes are held in 100-minute sessions every other day. Activities take about 80 minutes of four class sessions to complete.
The lesson below outlines Day Three of activities. Students finish working on a project in which they design two Smart Phone desktops (Assignment: SmartPhone Literature Project) to find and articulate connections among major literary works we have studied, and between literature and contemporary culture. Groups present one of their desktop projects on Day Four.
As a refresher, the Lady Macbeth Smart Phone desktop, and Beowulf Smart Phone desktop with narration video are included as resources. You can also use these to provide examples of finished products to students.
Today students get back into their groups to finish their two Smart Phone desktops. Groups are required to create one desktop on a chosen character from Macbeth and one desktop on a chosen character from another major literary work we have read this year, such as Beowulf, the Iliad, or The Canterbury Tales.
Most groups create one of their Macbeth desktops on Macbeth or Lady Macbeth (Student Work: Lady Macbeth Smart Phone Project) and their second desktop on Beowulf (Narration: Beowulf Smart Phone Desktop)(Student Work: Beowulf Smart Phone). Groups engage in discourse and questioning on the following:
- plot of literary works
- mood, impact of the text on the reader
- how mood impacts their selection and creation of apps, song playlists, and contact choices.
Students select one smart phone to present next class, Day Four.
