Lesson 9 of 10
Objective: Students will be able to add, subtract, multiply and factor linear expressions.
Opener: As students enter the room, they will immediately pick up and begin working on the opener. Please see my instructional strategy clip for how openers work in my classroom (Instructional Strategy - Process for openers). This method of working and going over the opener lends itself to allow students to construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others, which is mathematical practice 3.
Learning Target: After completion of the opener, I will address the day’s learning targets to the students. In today’s lesson, the intended target is, “I can add, subtract, multiply and factor linear expressions.” Students will jot the learning target down in their agendas (our version of a student planner, there is a place to write the learning target for every day).
Review Game: Expressions Review Explore Narrative The questions in the review game give students opportunity to persevere with problem solving (mathematical practice 1), model (mathematical practice 4), and reason abstractly and quantitatively (mathematical practice 2). Students will also need to pay close attention to signs and be precise with their work (mathematical practice 6).
Study Blue: To summarize this lesson, I am going to remind students that I have uploaded flashcards to Study Blue for their studying pleasure :) Many kids do not know how to study for math, or don't know if they are getting the right answers when they study, so I have uploaded flashcards for their use!
