# Equation Treasure Hunt

Lesson 1 of 3

## Objective: Students will be able to solve linear, absolute value, radical, and quadratic equations.

#### Warm Up

*5 min*

I include **Warm ups** with a **Rubric** as part of my daily routine. My goal is to allow students to work on **Math Practice 3** each day. Grouping students into homogeneous pairs provides an opportunity for appropriately differentiated math conversations. This lesson’s Warm Up- Equations Review, asks students to write a polynomial and an absolute value equation that have the same solution (**Math Practice 7**).

#### Equation Treasure Hunt

*45 min*

This is a fun way to review mathematical skills. It gets kids up and moving and is self correcting. There are ten posters spread around the room that all link to each other. The students start at any poster, solve the questions, and then find the solutions at the top of another page. They move this way through the posters until they reach their starting place. I have the students turn in the completed problems for points. The completed problems must show work to get full credit.

The problems for this activity come from Kuta Software which is an amazing resource for high school math teachers.
