## Reflection: Coherence Hi-Tech Fractions - Section 1: Warm Up

I was surprised in this warm up that some of my students seemed to forget how to create equivalent fractions.  Therefore, I was extremely glad I did this warm up in order to observe students that needed more support for this concept.  I did notice that some students seemed to have slight anxiety when I asked them to pass their paper to their left.  In the future, I will tell my students more about the activity before asking them to pass their papers in order to try and reduce some of their anxiety.

Checking for understanding prior to a lesson and especially when delivering information about a new concept is a strategy I use quite often. I use this strategy because it is important for me to fully understand which students are struggling and perhaps missing information from previous lessons in order to provide support in the current lesson and differentiate appropriately. This also helps me quickly rearrange learning partners when I observe students struggling. I try to arrange partners so that two struggling students are not together in order to ensure success for each student.
