Reflection: Conferencing Reading Buddies - Section 2: Good Spot to Read

 

In order to check understanding I make sure to walk around and sit with each group as they read. I might stop them to check for understanding or to get clarification. I also might use the time to draw their attention to specific information that we will discuss later as a class. 

I keep a notepad with me and write down any notes or observations that I make. My notes tend to deal with reading fluency and the strategies I see students use while they read. I do make notes on comprehension if a student appears to have trouble following along. Inferring is difficult and I realize all of my students need extra help doing this. My comprehension notes might be on the details they recall or if they can make any connections to prior learning or reading.

Reading Buddies

Unit 18: Number the Stars Literature Unit
Lesson 7 of 19

Objective: SWBAT read a chapter from our book with a partner and check for understanding with their buddy to build fluency and comprehension skills.

Big Idea: When reading with a partner students can practice checking their understanding of what they have read by having quick and meaningful discussions. Partner reading also helps them work on fluency and other reading strategies.
