Reflection: Students with Disabilities Kings and Queens: Fantasy and Reality - Section 4: Response to Research

To help students that struggle in writing, I have them work as a group. I am lucky to have a student teacher at this time, and so I had her work with four students in gathering information from the book. They then took this information and worked with her to create sentences for their paragraph. For a few students, I had them write in outline form. The outline gives them a structure to follow and allows them to see their writing develop.

My student teacher was their more to help as a motivator and help with the gathering of facts. She offered some writing and spelling help, but allowed students to create their own pieces. If they were on what to do next she had found places and paragraphs in the book for them to go back and reread. She would have them reread together and decide what might be useful from the text.
