Reflection: Student Ownership Looking at the Setting - Section 4: Collaborative Activity

Three seems to be the 'magic' number that works best for my students.  Daily collaborative activities are still new to me and I am amazed that when I allow my students to form their own groups, they also change partners.  Today as my students formed their groups, they were not the same groups as the day before.  I am not sure why this is, but it does work for them because they are gaining experience working with a variety of students.

One thing that I have learned about collaborative activities, they are different from 'work' stations.  For me it means the materials need to be organized and ready to go, in a manner that does not confuse them with 'work' station materials.  I usually have the materials for collaborative activities ready to pass out after my students are situated in their groups. Where as 'work' station materials usually stay in the area.
