## Reflection: Complex Tasks Fractions of a Set - Section 1: Whole Group Lesson

This lesson turned out to be a two day working session with the students.  I realized as we were working that they could not name the equivalent fractions in each set.  What I failed to do was back up and realize that this task was not the right one at the right time to discuss equivalencies.  The real goal was to name and write fractions of a set.

I pushed too much too hard.  If you do this activity, as it is a good one, go slow and don't expect to discuss equivalencies unless it is with a student or group of students that are fully ready. This is a complex task and should have had a lot more front loading before asking the children to be independent.
