Reflection: Grade Book and Data Analysis Finding the Area Review and Assessment - Section 3: Quiz + Closure


I'm attaching an answer key for this quiz so you can see how I graded my students.  For the most part, the students received 3 points per problem.  Additional points came from multi-step problems.  The 3 points given were for writing down the formula, showing their work, and then correctly answering and labeling their work.  My students were able to use a calculator to do the computation. 

The students struggled with quesiton 9 and 11. 

Question 9:  they didn't take in to account that the problem was asking for less than 12 square meters and I did not give it to them if they gave me a base and height that equaled 12 square centimeters.  Additionally, if they incorrectly labeled the height, I took a 1/2 point off.

Question 11:  Most only gave me one measurement when the problem asks for measurement(s).  I would have liked to have seen more work and organization from this problem, but they really weren't there yet.  They used the guess and check method which made the problem seem like there would be a bunch of answers.  If they would have set up the formula, and mutlplied both sides by 2 they would have seen they had to find b x h = 12.  This would have made much more sense.
