Reflection: Quizzes Structures of Poetry Formative - Section 1: Independent Work

Overall, my students did pretty well. For #1 many of my students could tell me that the see is big and wild. Some said the sea is a desert of waves and a wilderness of waves, so I need to work more on discussing the literal and figurative interpretation of language when answering the questions.  For #2, half of my students chose letter a, 9 students chose b, and 5 chose d. The 5 that chose d are in my struggling group, and I will be continuing to work with them on reading the question carefully, as choice d has nothing to do with the question asked. The students that chose b, aren't necessarily wrong, but the question wants the students to think about how those words and the rhythm help the reader. By visualizing the movement of the waves, we can infer meaning in the poem. Simply enjoying the poem, doesn't necessarily help the reader. I may change that question to "...help the reader determine the meaning of the poem."
