Reflection: Modeling Counting on to add - Section 1: Activating Strategy


In teaching this strategy, it's important to make sure that the students put the starting number in their head (rather than count the starting number).  To ensure that this is done accurately, I model during the lesson delivery, and throughout the unit, how to start with the number in my head.  

I have found that modeling this strategy is the best way to ensure that they start with the correct number in their head to avoid any misconceptions of using the starting number to count on.
