Reflection: Standards Alignment How Do I Share This? Fractions of a Region Part 2 - Section 1: Activator

I supply my students with prompts and checklists frequently.  I feel this is a really important step in leading them deeper into Mathematical Practice 6, which is to attend to precision.  These give the students the freedom to stay in their zone of understanding and push further, while guided by my prompts and expectations.

Setting students up in third grade to engage in the rigor of mathematical practices does not mean giving them harder problems or work. It means creating an environment where they are expected to make meaning, explore thoughts, and communicate thinking.

Structured prompts engage them in just that.
