## Reflection: Intervention and Extension Break Downs - Section 3: Get Set

In this section students worked independently illustrating multiplication problems using base tens drawings, and explaining the process. Some students had a problem recognizing the value of the one digit numbers, when it was multiplied by a multiple of 10.   For instance, I asked students to multiply 2 x 3.  They understood that the product was 6. But when I asked them to tell me the value of 6 they seemed a bit puzzled.  I had to refer them back to the place value chart for them to visually see the connection.  After, I modeled this one or two times they easily detected the difference in multiplying by ones and the power of tens.
