Reflection: Rigor "Something Wicked This Way Comes": Macbeth Meets with the Witches and Plans More Murders - Section 5: Conversation Round Table: Group Work on I-Chart


It's conceivable that some of the students in my senior English classes have not written a paper since their freshman year. How that happened is complicated and matters less that what I do to help students progress so that they are ready for college should they choose that path. That's why I take the extra time to engage students in performance activities. It's why I put students in groups today to work on the I-Analysis. Many students, even w/ an example on the handout, get hung up on little things and talk themselves out of understanding. 

Later in the day two students came to my room and asked me about wording on the handout: "images via sensory perception." Who would think that would be a problem? We talked about our senses and the images. It became clear to me that both students understand the assignment and where we're headed w/ it. However, they had talked themselves out of understanding because they obsessed over four words. 

Sometimes our students need to know we're approachable and will talk them through their lack of faith in themselves.
