Reflection: Joy February: Black History Month "Riding with Rosa" - Section 3: Application


Absolutely one of my favorite moments of the year.  The kids are accustomed to writing a lot in my classroom, so when I mention the writing activity, no one thinks twice.  The personal addition of their actual picture on the bus, however, changes the landscape of the assignment.  They "own" this new fact that they are part of Rosa's experience, and it takes their writing to an extra level of creativity.

Unit 9: Significant School Days
Lesson 8 of 14

Objective: TSWBAT analyze the Montgomery City Code primary resource and compare it to a book about Rosa Parks in order to write an opinion piece with textual evidence.

Big Idea: Students "sit" on the bus with Rosa Parks and describe what they would have done when Mrs. Parks was confronted by the bus driver.
