Reflection: Lesson Planning The Art of Rhetoric Part 2 -Persuasion is All Around Us - Section 2: Lesson

When it comes to selecting example commercials for my students, I work the same way I do with movie clips.  When I see something good, I write a note to myself to find it online.  However, with commercials I also try to do a combination of those they are familiar with and some they aren't as likely to have noticed.  I also change at least a few of the commercials each year to keep current.

Interestingly, after this lesson, I generally start getting ideas from students for the next year.  They will come in at random and say, "I saw a commercial last night that you need to use next year...." Of course, I love this and ask them to send a link to it with the appeals they noticed through Edmodo.
