Reflection: Lesson Planning The Art of Rhetoric Part 3 -Audience Awareness - Section 2: Lesson

 

I have taught this lesson several times and have tweaked it over the years in many ways.  However, since I have taught it before I am able to keep students focused in a way that I couldn't the first time. This allows me to complete the entire lesson in on class period.

With that I would say that dividing the lesson across two days would be fine especially the first time.  Students tend to want to discuss the ads and connect them to a gazillion other things.  To an extent this is good. I want them to be excited and make connections; however, I also do not want it to interrupt the flow of the lesson nor do I want to stifle good conversation and interest by shooting down a student who is sharing.  I know from experience that there is a fine line there hence, consider whether you want to tackle this in one or two pieces.
