Reflection: Trust and Respect Ruby Bridges in Three Forms - Section 2: A Dramatic Presentation: Recording Our Thoughts

There are times through this unit when it was necessary for my students to take their Ruby Bridges books home.  I will be honest, though, some students did not take them home because I didn't let them.  We all know who those kiddos are who would take the book home, lose it and not be able to make up the work.  I gave those kids extra time to complete their book during lunch and recess.

Even though I want to instill responsibility and organization in my students, I also know that not all kiddos develop at the same pace and because this project spans several days and represents the bulk of their work, I don't want any one of them to suffer and have to redo days' worth of work because they weren't ready to handle that responsibility.  I will teach them that lesson with other, shorter assignments.
