Reflection: ELL Students The Boy Without a Birthday - Section 2: Independent Reading

 

ELL and students with learning disabilities are given choice as to how much they want to jot down in their readers notebook to help them practice the strategy of retelling main events across their fingers in order to summarize main events.  I did not want the writing aspect of jotting notes or making a time line to impede students progress of accomplishing a lot of reading with comprehension.  Therefore, I gave them choice as to if they jotted notes, made a time line or just remembered the main events by practice retelling first to themselves and then later, in the share out to a partner.
