Reflection: Intrinsic Motivation When in Rome: Discovering the Meaning of Affixes - Section 3: Group Game

While some students are going to have just discover that words can be dissected, for some students you'll have to give them an opportunity to play around with the words and manipulate them. A game seems to be one of the best ways to do that. This game gives them intrinsic motivation to learn the meaning of prefixes and to use them correctly by putting words together correctly. The game can be extended by adding suffixes or adding to the prefix deck as students learn more words. After students learn how to play the game, it can become a station or an independent activity at other points in the unit.
