Reflection: Connection to Prior Knowledge What is the 100th Step? - Section 1: Warm-Up

I use math museum as a way to dip stick into the students minds to see what they know.  I also use this same strategy to help the students connect to prior learning.  As I walk around the room to see what the students know, their classmates walk around and are reminded of somethings they didn't think of.

Today, only two students remembered that input/output tables are patterns.  I made sure to call extra attention to these two "exhibits" to help students trigger these types of problems in their memories.  A new student had not been exposed to these patterns before, I was able to learn this information within the first 10 minutes of the class.

What is the 100th Step?

Unit 1: Numerical Expressions and Patterns
Lesson 8 of 13

Objective: SWBAT use patterns to determine an expression (rule) that can be used to extend a pattern.

Big Idea: Students gain understanding that finding the rule is key to exploring a pattern, as they seek the 100th number (and beyond) in a pattern.
