Reflection: Unit Planning Summarizing a Nontraditional Story: Determining the Problem, Climax, and Solution of a Story - Section 2: Practice

 

I decided to use Cinderella as the main theme of our unit because students are writing fantasy stories and Cinderella is a very familiar plot for students to remember. As students are learning knew ways of talking about and summarizing books, I want them to be free from comprehending new ideas or concepts and just focus on the process of identifying story elements. 

This focus was really helpful because it allowed us to focus on many different ELA standards that focus on comparing stories through identifying important elements.

There are many common stories that are available for comparison. I also like to find stories that are found in many different cultures. Cinderella is one such story.
