Reflection: Intervention and Extension Building Arrays - Section 4: Independent Practice


During independent work time, I divide my class into three different groups. I usually spend time working with the A group who are students in need of the most intervention.  For this lesson the A and B groups built the arrays using counters while the C group, which is the extension group, was able to think more abstractly about arrays and simply draw them on their paper.   Providing intervention and extension during independent work time allows students to be challenged on their level.

Big Idea: In this lesson, students use the vocabulary columns and rows to build simple arrays using their bodies and counters.
