Reflection: Pacing Words in Context: The Amazing Race to "The Cask of Amontillado" (Day 1 of 2) - Section 5: Closure: Assessment

Initially, I had thought about having students complete the questions as they read the text, but having them read silently first was a much better idea because it forced them to concentrate more on reading. The downside to this is that my students completed very few of the questions today. This impacts the pacing of the lesson and unit because I'll need to give them more time next class to complete the text-dependent questions, but this is why I encouraged them to go back and re-read the text for homework. I won't pretend that I think they will all do this, but I know that re-reading will help them finish "the amazing race" much more quickly and efficiently during the next class.
