Reflection: Checks for Understanding Aarrr, Me Hearties! Compare, Contrast, and Share: Pirate Week Day 5 of 5 - Section 3: Finish Pirate Stories Compare and Contrast

My students had experience with completing Venn diagrams prior to entering third grade, but giving them specific story elements to include was new to them.  It was challenging for students to consider all of the elements that I included on the Venn diagram.  I know that I'll need to support students as we continue to compare and contrast texts throughout the year.  As each student finished I checked in with them to see how they felt they did with this activity.  This quick "Check for Understanding" provided a good insight into how my students perceive their own reading abilities.
