Reflection: Intrinsic Motivation Turkey Time - Section 2: Mini-Lesson

 

Often times when I am modeling an assignment, I will have students come up and complete the task under my supervision. Kindergartners don't want to hear me just talking at them, so I feel this is a great way to keep everyone engaged. It also provides motivation, as most children really want to be one of my helpers. Students know that I will not call on anybody who is not on task.

Big Idea: Kindergartners love celebrating holidays. In this lesson, children gear up for Thanksgiving while using their number sense.
