Reflection: Complex Tasks Tribe Tale Practice - Section 3: Group Tribe Tale Practice

 

Many of the projects we do in class are complex and require a certain amount of independence and self-motivation.  If you try one of these tasks like the group research project we are working on now and it is less than successful the first time, don't give up!  It is amazing to me how the students rise to meet your expectations.  We usually hold a little class meeting after projects, presentations, etc. to debrief and discuss how things went.  I ALWAYS give them positive feedback followed by ways we can improve, and end it with more positive feedback.  A constructive criticism sandwich, if you will.  It is amazing to me how the student always seem to try to meet my expectations and work so well in groups and independently by the end of the year.  They certainly don't start out that way.  I look at it as training them as we go.

Objective: SWBAT prepare a Native American tale from their tribe to be retold during their presentation to the class.

Big Idea: The students have each become tribes in our classroom. Today they get to prepare a tale from their tribe to retell as part of their group presentation to the class.
