Reflection: Student Self-Assessment A Little Thanksgiving Bling - Section 3: Assessment

The children can use a key to check if they have the beads in the correct order, and also look to the rebus on the key to verify that they know the details of the story.  Sometimes a student will not be paying close enough attention and they will get their beads out of order. One of the best tools I have to check over the students' work is our class's fifth grade buddies.  When these fifth grade children can, they come down and help in the room.  Sometimes we get together as a whole group, but as an incentive to work hard in their own classrooms, the fifth graders can earn their way down to my room to help.  It is definitely a win-win situation.

I plan on using this tool as a retelling strategy with other stories as well.  To see How a story retelling bracelet works, see the video clip from the lesson, "Brown Bear Retold."
