Reflection: Performance Tasks Writing A Personal Narrative, Day 2 of 2 - Section 3: Independent Work


The amount of time I gave them to complete this assignment was limited, which is fine because they need opportunities for writing under time pressure as well over extended periods of time, as indicated in CCSS Writing standard 10. One result, though, was the fact that even the most successful stories felt like they were ended abruptly. I read stories that had vivid details at the beginning and the last paragraph left me with questions and wanting to hear more. This sample story is a good example of one that needed more development before ending it. Surely I could have given them more time to work on this, but what I am choosing to do is to move on and make sure they get more opportunities for timed writing so they learn to give themselves enough time to maintain the same quality throughout.
