Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Cause and Effect Assessment - Section 1: The Assessment

My students did extremely well on this assessment! I was very pleased. I attribute our success to the use of graphic organizers, highlighting, and the questions What? and Why? The visual representations and highlighting allowed students to clearly “see” the relationship between two events. Incongruity or non-existent connections were obvious wrong answers. When filling out the graphic organizer, wrong answers were clear to students if they could not fill in the section next to a cause or an effect with an event or the answer to a what or why question didn't make sense.
