Reflection: Student Feedback Finding the Central Idea in Hughes's Memoir Salvation (Day 2 of 2) - Section 2: Building Knowledge

The student feedback in this part of the lesson was varied.  With some students I felt like I was pulling teeth.  They would give me that blank look when I asked questions such as "Why do you think the author wrote this story?"  But some students gave insightful answers.  One student suggested that Langston was feeling very guilty after this experience and that maybe he wrote this story to help relieve the anxiety he was feeling from the guilt of lying about really seeing Jesus.  I thanked this student for his and encouraged others to think as he did, a little deeper and more reflective.
