Reflection: Connection to Prior Knowledge Persuasive Appeals - Section 2: Tree Map


I had the students create the tree map so that they could see that persuasive appeals and techniques are related and not separate.  Through this activity it helped many see that techniques and claims are not only used in picture ads but also in writing and speaking.

Although students are not writing responses, by closely re-reading "America the Not So Beautiful" by Andy Rooney, the students saw the relationships from the Tree Map integrated into the written essay.
