Reflection: Intrinsic Motivation Checking the Reasonableness of Addition - Section 3: Student Practice


Although some students would have rather just solve the algorithms on paper, there's just something about technology that makes learning more exciting! Students loved being able to go on to the next slide, almost as if they were playing a video game. Student motivation almost always translates into a higher number of students reaching the lesson's goal, which I felt was the case today! However, I will say that the majority of students chose to use rounding more frequently that compatible numbers. I think this is because using compatible numbers to check for reasonableness is only applicable to certain situations whereas rounding can always be used!
