Reflection: Checks for Understanding Using Clarification to Compare and Contrast Characters - Section 4: Wrap Up

I know that it is important for students to have numerous experiences with using strategies as well as having opportunities to make connections with what they are learning. I felt it was important for students to discuss not only the similarities and differences between the characters but also how they used the active reading strategy of clarifying what they've read. The goal is for students to be strong readers at the end of the year able to comprehend what they are reading. In order to do this, students need to be aware of using strategies and able to recognize when they are using them. This discussion allows students to see the strategy in action and reflect on their ability to use it.
