Reflection: Intrinsic Motivation Greedy Gordy Can't Decide - Working with Venn Diagrams - Section 4: Independent Practice and Informal Assessment

This was one of those lessons that felt like I "hit it out of the park".  The students really grasped the concept of the Venn Diagram.  I feel like focusing my instruction on the Common Core and really building on the students' number sense has allowed them to develop a foundation of skills that can be used in a variety of mathematical tasks.

One student came up to me and said, "Mrs. Baumann, this is so much fun.  I can't believe it's learning!"  The students were truly engaged as you can see in the clip in this lesson and they were incredibly motivated.  They were so motivated that they wanted to know if they could do more surveys with Venn Diagrams.  I took the time to create a variety of surveys for them to use during choice time get more practice using the Venn Diagram.  It's a great way for them to practice some Common Core Standards with very little effort on my part!
