Reflection: Discourse and Questioning Discovering Patterns Within the Base 10 Number System - Section 3: Guided Practice


This video, 10 ten thousands, shows how difficult it was for students to express the idea that "10 ten thousands is equal to 100,000." There was a perfect moment for me to ask the student, So there are 10 thousands in 10,000 and there's also 10 thousands in 100,000? I could have also asked the other students if they agreed or would like to respectfully disagree with this student's answer. The only reason why I didn't do this is for the sake of time! However, understanding a key concept is always more important than finishing a lesson.
