Reflection: Grappling with Complexity Volcanoes: PCR practice following socratic seminar - Section 3: Teaching Strategy

I realized that most of my scholars have a tough time even when they understand the question.  Many of them begin to answer the question, but they forget to include all of the parts of the question when answering.  Therefore, answers are missing 1 to 2 parts of the answer.  Therefore, I on-the-spot decided to teach them to create their own graphic organizer in their notebooks once they identified what the question was asking them to do.  For this question, since they were asked to summarize a text that was organized by description, scholars chose to use a graphic organizer that was aligned to TOPIC, MAIN IDEAS and SUPPORTING DETAILS.   Click here for student drawn graphic organizer

For the actual summary, scholars only re-stated the topic & main ideas because this gives the reader an overview without being too specific.
