Reflection: Modeling Writing Great Topic and Concluding Sentences (Day 2 of 2) - Section 3: Teacher's Turn

I realized, as I looked at the videos of this lesson, that I need to do more modeling in the beginning of the lesson. I wm very interactive with my students and I want them to participate in the lesson, give me feedback and add ideas. however, when I'm modeling a strategy and 'thinking out loud', I need to use my ideas and my words instead of taking feedback. When I do this, I can control the vocabulary that I use, provide solid clear examples, and move forward toward the goal of the lesson. when I take student ideas too early, as I did when this student gave ideas about a concluding sentence, then I have to work with her ideas, which may not be ideal.

There is a time for guided teaching, wen students give ideas and you tweak them and gov feedback, but before that opportunity, I should make sure I've clearly modeled the strategy and thinking process.
