Reflection: Unit Planning Writing Great Topic and Concluding Sentences (Day 2 of 2) - Section 3: Teacher's Turn


I'm bothered by the "busy busy" whiteboard in this lesson. There is a lot going on in this lesson because we are in-between skills in the midst of a unit. They students are practicing writing topic and concluding sentences for the 2nd day and are fairly secure with this topic. We have also identified main idea and details multiple times in previous lessons and we do this again. Although identifying details is not critical in this lesson, I want to keep that in because we are writing soon and they students will need to use that same organizer next time to write their paragraph. 

When I reteach this lesson next time, I will spread out the organizers more to the side and put magnets on my sentence strips so they are flat against the board. When teaching strategies with multiple skills set in the middle of a unit, it's important to think about the visual presentation. What looks 'busy' to me probably looks confusing to my students.
