Reflection: Routines and Procedures Pocket Chart Center - Section 4: The Process Students Typically Follow

To ensure that pocket chart isn't simply a matching game, I like to add many things to this center.  In order for this center to be a high quality activity, it must have many levels!  My students are aware that they must follow the same routines each time at this center to ensure they are learning as much as possible.  They don't just match high frequency words, but they also make sure to read to each other (see the video) while tracking print and reading with a good speaking voice.  They listen to each other and read along with each other with fluency!  This is a fabulous center for speaking and listening practice.  And, after that have done the activity, they always get to read it for themselves, which builds a lot of confidence!

To be living or not to be living! That is the question?
Kindergarten Science » Walking alive...or not???
Big Idea: Young children think that many non-living things are alive and that many living things are not. This lesson requires kids to define life through criteria and use that criteria to identify things as living or non-living.
