Reflection: ELL Students Let's learn together - Section 4: Independent research and graphic organizer

In this part of the lesson I was thrilled to see this student able to navigate the Anthology successful. He came to this country eight months ago; so at this time he had had about 2 months of Kindergarten and 3 months of first grade. I have encouraged him to make sense of texts through cognates and illustrations, as I teach phonics and vocabulary. I believe he has benefited from the shift to CCSS because the constant going back into the text in search of evidence and the insistence on rereading, seems to have given him faster access to the language than had been my experience with other new comers.
