Reflection: Intrinsic Motivation Ending The Search for Identity--Did we find it? - Section 5: Closure or Jeopardy

Ending with jeopardy is a small extrinsic reward for their hard work, but I want to add that my students were intrinsically motivated to do well on their paragraphs. None of them rushed it just so they could play. In fact, only 2 of my 4 English 9 classes were able to play, and they only played about 10-15 minutes.

Instead of running the game this time, I wanted them to take ownership of this task, so I assigned a student to run the board from my Promethean Smartboard and keep score. Each group wrote their responses on a small whiteboard. Overall, I was proud that they were more interested in finishing their writing than in playing the game. Love these kids!
