Reflection: Complex Tasks Word Sort #1 from Syllables and Affixes book - Section 2: Mini-Lesson

 

To review of syllable types and long and short vowels sounds, I am ramping up word work and taking one to two days per sort.  I am helping students see connections in what they are learning during word work across content areas.  Especially helpful and critical to students learning from the sorts is taking the time at the beginning of the next day's word work to recap what they learned yesterday and to guide students to generate a big idea or a rule about the previous day's sort.

Objective: SWBAT sort words into columns marked CVC, CVCC, CVVC, CVCe and by writing them under the correct heading in Word Work Notebook

Big Idea: Push students to categorize words with different vowels into correct syllable types.
