Reflection: Diverse Entry Points Discovering Morals Through Fables - Section 4: Closing the Loop

 

My students struggled with thinking of morals that would be found in stories. For some it helped when I reminded them that author's lessons are like the lessons parents or grandparents use with us to remind us to be good - "sharing is caring", "treat others how you wanted to be treated", "don't judge a book by its cover", etc.

For others I gave them a review sheet of common morals that helped them identify the one in this fable. I attached it to the resource below.

Objective: SWBAT...analyze the characters, setting, problems and solutions to identify the moral lesson in the fable "The Dove and the Ant".

Big Idea: The main characters in fables are animals who learn lessons through the problems that they face.
