Reflection: Classroom Setup Carousel Discussion Act 5 "The Taming of the Shrew" - Section 2: Preparing for the Carousel Discussion

Back in the 1980s Madeline Hunter gained famed for her lesson plan format that begins with an Anticipatory Set. That is, teachers can create an environment that invites student learning from the moment students enter the classroom. Upon entering my room today, students saw an unfamiliar setup. Desks and furnitures were moved to allow circular movement around the room. The walls were papered with charts that clearly announced to students "we have an activity today."

We signal students to learn in many ways, and often that's at the classroom door. We can make most days an adventure in learning just by giving students something to anticipate by the way we invite them into our learning spaces.
